It's relatively unclear and practically impossible to determine exactly what species of dinosaur was the largest, due to the fact that many of the fossil discovered to date are not quite complete. Partial fossils have been discovered relatively recently that allude to the fact that may have been that the dinosaurs were much more larger than what scientists had perceived to have been the largest, but trying to judge based on the incomplete evidence that exists is a difficult task.
Although the information and evidence has been unearthed, and what is discovered in the near and far, probably will always be questions when it comes to determining which was the largest dinosaur or was the fastest, which could fly or who were experts in the water. Regardless of what actually is discovered, scientists probably never be able to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt exactly what happened sixty-five million years ago, or that we will have sufficient information to make truly conclusive decisions.
The best we can do is judge based on more complete evidence that we currently have available for us, which can only be a percentage of the child at the age of dinosaurs actually has to offer.
Evidence-based Case complete
With a relatively complete skeleton to go by and information sufficient to enable a reasonable total in size, the largest dinosaur discovered appears to be the Brachiosaurus.
The most likely Brachiosaurus lived during the late Jurassic or early Cretaceous period.
How big did it get?
There should be no surprise to anyone who has some familiarity with dinosaurs that the biggest of all dinosaurs went beyond what could be massive. The Brachiosaurus could have reached more than eighty feet long, with a body type similar to that of a giraffe, may well have been able to raise its head nearly forty feet in the air.
Although it can be quite difficult for scientists to accurately estimate the weight of the dinosaurs, the estimates in this range herbivorous in the neighborhood of thirty tons on the low end, all the way to forty tons at the other end spectrum.
Safety in numbers (pounds, that is.)
Brachiosaurus was an herbivore, dining exclusively on plant material. Many herbivores are particularly susceptible to predators, most probably because it poses a lesser threat to their attackers. Quite known dinosaurs herbivores had extra protection like armor or extra tough, spiny skin, but not the Brachiosaurus. It is speculated that the Brachiosaurus was not very even threatened by some of the largest predators in the world of the dinosaurs, simply because they were so big in stature.
Popularity
Because of the singular distinction of being the biggest beast to ever roam the earth, the Brachiosaurus has gained some notoriety in the popular media. We have seen the Brachiosaurus in some major films and on television, in fact, the Brachiosaurus has been popularized to the point that rivals the tyrannosaurus as the most popular all known species of dinosaurs [http://blog.discoverychannel.ca/dinosaurs].
It's probably quite likely that in the not too distant future, another skeleton nearly complete fossilized be discovered and put back together, like a huge puzzle, to show the world a dinosaur that is even more vast than Brachiosaurus. If Actually this happens, it certainly will not change the fact that the Brachiosaurus was one of the most impressive animals to ever walk the earth and probably will not change the fact that the Brachiosaurus is also one of the most popular species of dinosaur that ever lived.
