When the tube is placed in water is the only air stone hanging? Moreover, they are only one line of very small bubbles is to exit the air stone at a time?
Most hang mine. You can weigh the downstream tube with a rock or something if it still appears. The bubble may be small because the tank is deep and the pump is not strong enough to pump air to the bottom of the tank, where water pressure is greater. I use "deep Tetratec bombs for my tanks are deeper than 12-14 inches. They are a bit more expensive, but sure put a lot of air. You can have an "old" airstones also, who cover all kinds of garbage and be disposed periodically to maintain their pumps of hard work and off the board shortly (the joints are replaceable, BTW) 8
